Pedometer vs Heart Rate Monitor?

Friday, October 07, 2011

Hello Spark friends, I have a question? I just got my heart rate monitor and went running this morning. I also had my pedometer attached to me. When I got home my pedometer said I burned 314 calories and my heart rate moinitor said I burned 572 calories. Which one would be the most accurate? Can anyone shed some light? Thanks a bunch!! emoticon

Heart rate monitors are the way to go. Usually you calculate it yourself. A lot of fancy gizmos may not be accurate as their numbers are tested for men. If it asked for your age, sex, weight and height on set up, it probably is accurate. Go you!

Do both of them have you enter weight? The one that measures accurately for your age, weight, and heart rate would be the one I use. I just got a new pedometer and heart rate monitor in one, so no more guessing.

I agree with DEBJAE, i would go with the heart rate monitor.

Yes it has the chest strap.

If your heart rate monitor has the chest strap, (close to your heart) I would go by that one...but I'm no expert!
