What it's like to have a Band Sister

Tuesday, October 04, 2011

When I started out on this journey, I was not one to join forums or chat groups. But I had heard that Spark People was a great resource for weight loss and support. So I gave it a try. I found the Lapbander's team and started reading, and reading, and reading. I kept coming back and always found something that helped.... advice, support, kind words and honesty.

After my surgery, I thought it was time to take the giant leap and find a buddy that I could share ideas and issues with. Along came Darla who had surgery the same day as I did! How could I go wrong!

Today, after 4 months since our operation and countless e-mails back and forth, I met my Band Sister in her home town of Durant Oklahoma. I am on my first RV trip to the SouthWest and couldn't head for home without trying to visit. She looks fabulous! and is so warm and caring. I have found a friend for life that knows exactly what I am going through. I know she will always be there for me, just as I will always be there for her.

I'm so thankful to SP, the Lapbanders team and Darla for taking the chance!

This is great! I am so happy for the both of you. I have a friend that I graduated from high school with and has moved very far away but we both had wls in august. she had the rny though and I got banded. but its still great to have someone who is going through the same sort of thing to talk to and bounce ideas off of. even if we aren't taking the exact same path.

Keep up the great work!

    Wonderful!!!
So happy for you! It sure does make a difference when you have a friend experiencing the same things.

How nice! I'm glad you hit it off in person. I don't think I've seen Darla's name in the band groups. What screen name does she use?

I'll be visiting a friend in Houston next month and am hoping PAJOURNEY and I can work out a get-together. Same for a band friend from another website.
