Artificial Sweeteners VS real Sugar whats the difference?

Ok, before all the doctors would say use artificial sweeteners, stay away from sugar, now they are going back to saying use sugar leave the artificial sweeteners alone. I have heard that they make you crave more sugar. Is this true? wouldn't regular sugar make you crave sweets too? I am a bit confused. What do you use? I do use splenda/sugar blend in my cool aid to help me get my water in everyday, and I do use the mocha flavored splenda in my coffee every morning as it saves me from stopping at McDonalds and buying a small mocha every morning, so it really saves me money and calories LOL Help me to understand the difference.

    You sound like me with the diet soda bit. Now we are not supposed to drink diet soda, it's like the sugar thing, it can make you crave sweets. I cannot imagine going back to things with sugar in them. I don't think a teaspoon in coffee or tea would kill us, but if we ate things like regular yogurt, the points value would be off the charts.

    I am an advocate of eating real foods. Eggs are great! Butter is great! Sugar is great! All in moderation and in proper portion sizes! Your body knows how to digest real foods. Your body doesn't do well on chemicals. I've heard that when you eat margerine or fake cheeses, according to your body, you might as well be eating plastic, it doesn't go through the liver very well. I am eating real foods and losing weight, very slowly but still losing, I'm even still drinking whole milk! You have to make the decision as to what is right for you and I agree there is a lot of conflicting information out there, you can find articles to back up whatever side that you are on.

    I think it's a matter of personal preference. There are cases where artificial sweeteners (and sugar) can trigger cravings. But it's not true for everyone and it's not true for me in particular. I actually prefer artificial over the real thing from a taste standpoint too. Some people think it tastes "chemically".

    I know that sugar has more calories. I think that the theory that Splenda makes you crave sugar may not hold water, but again it is probably one of those new theories. I am confused about whether eggs are good or bad, too! Maybe we should stop reading and just do what feels right! Hugs!
