A COUPLE OF QUILTS FOR MY GRAND DAUGHTER

Monday, October 03, 2011

This quilt was my first attempt at making a quilt using the sewing machine.

This was her favorite as I used the old fashioned way and did hand tie quilting.

This shows the detail that I did by adding buttons and ribbons and making it so she would have things that were three dimensional. She loves buttons and ribbons.
As you can tell by the date these were done in the phase of my life when I was given a short time to live so I worked on these daily until I had them finished.
I think it is time that I make her another quilt and this time enjoy the process along the way.

Your quilts are very nice. I have thought about making one with some very special clothes that I have but I am afraid I would ruin it and the special clothes would then be gone.

Very nice Sandy! I like them both a lot, and good idea with the ribbons and buttons. I must say I like the blue one best. Blue is my favorite color, and I love the windmill like designs. I'm doing one right now that feels somewhat similar to me with squares done like puzzle pieces. Keep me posted if you do another one that you won't have to rush through. It would be really nice to do it and enjoy the process at the same time. If you need encouragement or any help with it just let me know, we could even get together if you'd like :-)

Those quilts are lovely, did a great job. The teddy bear/bunny guilt was my favorite, but they are both great looking. You did a fantastic job on them. emoticon emoticon

Sandy, these are beautiful!! I've always wanted to learn how to quilt, but never had the time. My best friend in Kentucky quilts and is an expert. Wish I was near her so she could teach me. Again, they're gorgeous!!

Sandy, these are beautiful. I have always loved that bear. My son had that same bear in his room when he was younger. Seeing that quilt brought back memories. They are really beautiful, and I love the three-dimensional idea. You are so talented.

Great job, Sandy. I don't know if you could find material like that now. The last time I looked, there wasn't much out there. Nothing like the teddy/bunny quilt. Material is so thin now. You have to go to a quilt shop to find anything heavy enough to use for quilting.

I have a sewing machine... first step right!? Not sure about time though. I have an older friend who came over and oiled the machine... first time it was used in several years and she was very happy with how it worked. I have a little corner set up in my bedroom and a few starter projects I want to do. But WAY busy!!

How beautiful! I am getting a lot of the clothes that my Grandma used to wear, she passed last May. I am going to make a quilt for my Mom, My daughter and one for me. I have never quilted before so it will take me awhile, but knowing that my Grandma can still be wrapped around us is just so comforting. I will have to "pick your ear" if I get stuck. LOL

  Hi Sandy........
The quilts are beautiful!!! I made one for Elizabeth in 2007 plus a quilted seat pad set for her high chair. Now, we have another grandchild on the way in May, so I had better get to the fabric store and choose some more material. They are fun to make and the finished result is wonderful........such a sense of pride in a job well-done. emoticon

Very nice, I used to quilt. I only have one of them that is my sons to keep for him. It is a log cabin I think. I made a quilt with mountains and a stream and elk on it for my little brother and some little appliqued lap quilts for my mom and dad, but they have all since disowned me, so they may have thrown them away by now. I guess it was the thought that counted. Someday I will make more, they are so much fun. I belonged to a quilting group at that time of about 4-5 other girls, it was so much fun. Hope you have fun making them, I know I did.
