Hiking on steep paths in La Roche Guyon - a view well worth the effort!

Sunday, October 02, 2011

Hello again dear Sparkfriends!

The video showed you the highlight of today's hike: the view from the top of the white chalk cliffs on the river Seine and the village of La Roche Guyon.

To get there, I had passed by the castle of La Roche Guyon (the oldest tower at the top is from 1190, and the rest of the castle was built from the 12th until the 18th century)...

... the church (called Saint-Samson)...

and I had been on very very steep paths. This one was just the beginning (and not a path at all...they were like the one in the video, and usually much narrower... NOT a hike to do if it is muddy!):

After that, I didn't take any photos for a while and focused on my walking - I think otherwise I might have given up!
I was so glad when it became easier and I crossed some fields and forest...

But what a joy when, through the foliage, I got a hint of what I was going to find next...

And then I finally got there!!!
This is the view on the Seine and La Roche Guyon:

On the fields below and the Seine:

Looking East towards Paris (which is 70 km away so you won't see it on the photos)...

And the white chalk cliffs with the village of Haute-Isle:

Pfew, I was proud of myself for conquering those steep paths! The way back was much easier and I was feeling quite refreshed when I arrived back in La Roche Guyon, so I could enjoy looking at the houses and gardens in the village:

And felt a bit jealous of the view some inhabitants have from their house on the Seine!

I hope you are all having a lovely Sunday! Any hike or walk for you today?

emoticon on your improving fitness, Claire.

Brillant video, commentary and hiking goals Claire. I really look forward to feeling like I am right there.

I particularily like the white chalk cliffs with the village of Haute-Isle. Are these the same geological features as the white cliffs of Dover?

Kudos for tackling the paths to get to the beautiful panorama of the Seine valley. Well worth it! I also loved the grapes on the arbor - their different shades are gorgeous. Thanks again for a great journey.
I did a bit extra walking today. My neighbor whom I usually walk with went to Boston for the weekend with one of her sons. So, her husband had dog duty and called me every time he took the dog out to keep him company. So, my dog and I gladly went.
Have a good week, Claire!

Beautiful... you make me look forward to next summer, which I'll spend in France :-) So many good hikes in store for me, I can't wait :-)
Sure, I could hike here... but it wouldn't be really hiking, more like walking through a park...
Keep sharing with us Claire, it's a real pleasure :-)
Merci! emoticon
