The run that almost did not happen

Thursday, September 29, 2011

This morning I woke to storms and seems that happens more than not lately. I was bummed that I would miss my scheduled training run. Sorta. Part of me just didn't feel it. I decided that maybe it was a sign I should go to lunch with a friend, or spend time in reflection, do yoga, be open to opportunities, or just reflect.

Not ten minutes after posting something to that very effect, I got a text from my sister-in-law. She and my brother were going for a run and did I want to meet them later. I hemmed and hawed...said well maybe after 11. I had a conference call to do and I was trying to figure out how to fit everything in. I figured she would say, no too late. Instead she said perfect time. Let's meet.

I begrudgingly got dressed and then said, hey, you said you were going to use this as a time to be open to opportunities. Well heck, it just smacked you in the forehead. Get going.

So, I got myself together, and did the call from the car and the parking lot of the gym. My SIL and brother arrived, and sissy said, how far. I said 4 miles. She said how about 5. And then we did it. It hurt but we held a decent pace. After it was over it felt great of course (sissy is 25 and I am 45 - I am just thrilled I can keep up (tee hee hee)). I ran into the gym for a shower and BAM, the skies opened up and the rain started pounding. By the time I finished getting ready, the skies had cleared and the sun was shining bright.

We ran in the sun, I finished to the sun. Oh...and I burned 500+ calories.

Sometimes you just have to be open to the opportunities - oh, and then you have to go with them when they arrive!

Happy running!

    Good Job!

Good job on running when you didn't exactly feel like doing it. The weather certainly does go a long way in not making you want to get outside and do anything - whether it be exercise, work in the yard, or clean out your car. Last night we were at Giant and I saw a car with a sticker C25K. That was the first I had seen it other than on SparkPeople. The background on my page could read, "I run like an old girl."
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

It's amazing how often when we need a little shove to get going we get it in unexpected ways. You are doing great!
