Yes, I`m on a roll. After accomplishing my first serious endurance test (HM) my new goals, before attacking "the land of Gods" is picking up my pace and improving my running strategy.
Therefore, today I signed up for the "5KClassique du Parc Lafontaine" (10K was sold out ...) and Runners`Room Resolution Run on December 31st (another 5K). My goal is to improve my time and pass the limit of 30min.
Well, in an attempt to do a 5K light/recovery run tonight I said to myself (silly/proud/reckless/crazy woman) "let`s pick it up, 1K after 1K and see if I can kill this one in 30min". Well, I did. It`s oficially 4min faster than my last 5K. I admit, my last 5Ks were just light runs, part of my HM training. I knew I got better so I knew 30min isn`t unrealsitic. But I thought I`ll die for the last 2K. And throw up. I didn`t. I finished in 29:58.
I`m tired but proud. I`m having light cottage cheese with dried cranberries and thinking to set the goal for 29min for my next 5K race, on October 16th.
One thing I`m proud is that I convinced one of mu colleagues to do the Resolution Run with me. She was so pumped with my HM that she decided to go for something more than walking her dogs. I`ll be her coach! I have to share with you she`s the third friend I infect with the bug of running. Two more have started this summer ... YAY !!! More runners on the road :)
next race will be a second HM, end of April next year. This will mean winter running. Tough runs, make you stronger. Not to disrespect the demential dry heats in Texas or the humid torrid July in Miami but there`s nothing more unappealing than heading out for a run at 9pm at -20C with a blizzard. North Americans and Canada, we know this. And equally love it!
I plan a 10K in the early summer and run again the Oasis Montreal HM. It`ll be the third HM so I`m expecting to cut a few minutes each time. This time I`ll run with a friend, the one who introduced me to running. Her previous HMs were 1:45 and 1:38. BBBRRRRR that`s fast ... but she took time off for almost three years so we`ll be even :) I`m looking forward to this year.
And I realize I`m not a beginner runner. I moved slowly to intermediate :) I`ll stay here for a while, maybe forever and enjoy each minute of it while getting better. And happier!
