The Quest to a *Perfect* Sweater w/pics

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

Well, last year I decided I wanted a zip/button up sweater/sweatshirt with a hood and long thumb hole cuffs. Yeah, right! Couldn't find one anywhere!! I was given a gift card to a craft store for Christmas and decided I'd make a sweater.

Bought black yarn and scrounged through two giant boxes of buttons to find the *perfect* buttons.
Big or. . .

small. I like options :)

Scoured the internet and Ravelry for hours to find the *perfect* pattern. Came up stumped. Couldn't find the *perfect* pattern anywhere, except in size 12-24 months.

Found a few other "raglan" patterns, but kept coming back to the toddler one. Decided to write my own pattern, so I found measurements online and cast on.

I joined SP on January 17, 2011. When I pulled out my sweater to work on it, I quickly realized that it was WAY too big. It started as size 42, which I then changed to 38. HA!

I restarted the pattern in June, it's going to be a size 32!!! An astounding 10 inches smaller than my original sweater.

My sweater and supplies today.

I have somewhere between 10 and 18 inches left on the body. Depends on how long I want it to be. Then I have to finish the sleeves, with long cuffs and thumb holes. Then the hood, button band, and buttons. I can't wait to wear it!!! Thanks to my Twilight Challenge Team and the 100 Day Countdown to Breaking Dawn Part 1. Finishing this sweater is my goal for that challenge. I've got 59 days left. Hoping to have the sweater finished in about 2 weeks, then I can move on to yoga socks and cabled fingerless gloves :)

Awesome sweater! I wish I could knit that well. I crochet a lot, but my knitting skills just aren't as strong.

What a great goal to have! Are you going to wear it out to the movie?

I really admire anyone that can do this and has the patience for it. Someday maybe I will learn!

Wow, this is great, a knitting project! It's hard for me to stay still, maybe it will be a challenge for to finish even one glove, hehe.

This is so awesome. I love that you're creating exactly what you want instead of settling for something store-bought. And it's gonna be TINY!
Actually...I just finished watching a documentary that I didn't think was up my alley at all, but I ended up loving it. It's about 80 year old fashion photographer Bill Cunningham. It's on Netflix Instant (if you have Netflix). Anyway...your blog reminded me of it.
And I love the sweater idea. It's going to be fantastic!
