Yesterday I finished my sprint triathlon and I did soooo much better than last year. My results: 1/2 mile swim time - 18:47 (last year 27:11), 14 mile bike time - 1:09:00 (last year 1:31:07), 5K run - 35:57 (last year 39:48). Overall time with transitions - 2:10:28 (last year 2:46:52).
My goal was to complete the swim without panic and to actually swim the whole distance without stopping. Last year I kept panicking and stopping. I met my goal. I actually felt really confident. My age group was the last wave to start the race. I was wave 6 and there were 2 minutes between each wave. I actually passed people who were in waves 4 and 5......seriously!
I can't believe how much easier it was to ride the bike portion with a road bike, bike shoes, and clip in pedals. Last year I rode a heavy mountain bike. My goal for next year is to drop my bike time to 60 minutes or less.
I went into the race telling myself I would run with walking breaks and I did just that, shaving almost 4 minutes off last year's time. Yeah!
I still ranked pretty close to the bottom, 156 out of 163 in the race. But, I do not care. I had fun and I met my goal!
I am also proud of my boys. My 15-year-old son completed the adult sprint race for the first time. He beat me big time, coming in in 100th place. My 12-year-old completed the youth race (250 yard swim, 4 mile bike, 1 mile run), placing in the top third.
