Weather ups & downs: TS Maria is changing

Saturday, September 10, 2011

The good news - she isn't a hurricane. In fact, she has changed shape and likely won't become a hurricane. She has slowed, she has spread. So Tropical Storm Maria now stretches vertically across all of the Caribbean. She hasn't arrived here in the VI yet.

The bad news - we're expecting 4 to 8 inches of rain (after a very rainy summer, so the ground is saturated) - and winds are expected, anywhere from 40 to 60 mph.

We're heading out to bkfst, because we'll be housebound for the afternoon and evening, probably through much of tomorrow. The governor declared a curfew from 7 pm to 5 am, we'll see if that's rescinded.

Sounds like a night for grilling dinner, then cuddling in the dark (since the power will inevitably go out).

Is all that rain responsible for the gorgeous new flowers in your wallpaper? They look like tiny orchids . . . such a great colour!!

The storm kind of stretched out and lost focus, but the rain has been off and on. We haven't gotten the worst of it yet, that's due tomorrow early morning. Supposed to be a heavy drenching rain all night long. Seriously, that's what the weather report said!
