Naked Ladies

Saturday, September 10, 2011

And here they are:

One of the joys of a new home is finding surprises like this at the side of the garage! I sent this picture to my dil and she immediately emailed back "Naked Ladies". I thought that was a little odd until I looked it up and, sure 'nuff, this is a type of amaryllis!

I am also enjoying pears from the tree in the back yard. Sammy the squirrel is getting more pears than I am, though. He delights in eating a few bites, then dropping the remainder on the ground. One barely missed Daisy dog, so she avoids the pear tree now. I pick up the wormy and squirrel eaten ones each morning to add to the composter, but discovered yesterday that bumble bees like them, too, when I got stung!

Nature is truly amazing and I am constantly delighted with new finds in my own yard.

The birds have found their feeder, the humming birds are enjoying the feeder I put out for them and Sammy Squirrel is a constant delight and nuisance to both Daisy dog and me!

Hugs to all my Sparkies! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yes Amaryllis are very popular. My mom use to love hers but they were always in a pot! I guess tt is too cold in the northern states to plant them in the ground. According to the dictonary, Amaryllis is a name for a shepherdess. Isn't that cool? Who would have thought! Yes, I am going to make a pear and chunky applesauce that you do up in the oven. I've made it once before and it is very good! If you like, I will send you a privat message with the recipe. Maybe you can put those pears to use! emoticon

We also have Naked Ladies! When they bloomed this year, our church treasurer said she was tempted to ask the elder who reads the announcements to comment on the naked ladies over in the pastor's yard! I think I'm glad she didn't do that! emoticon

ours are gone now...

It sounds so much fun!! That was like my Mums house. They would sit out side for hours watching the birds and the squirrels Duke it out for sunflower seeds!! (It was a lie. Squirrels were bigger. but flapping angry birds had more intimidation.)
