inspired by a complete stranger & ever so grateful!

Thursday, September 08, 2011

Approximately five months ago, we acquired our then five month old beagle, Foxy. I happened to be walking her through the park one Saturday morning, and saw this woman riding her bicycle while her dog was trotting alongside her. Even though she wasn't pedaling that fast, she was able to comfortably hold the leash in her hand while steering the bike. I marveled at how much more distance she was able to cover versus the amount of time it was taking me on foot. When I got home, I was so excited to tell DW about the woman on the bike with her dog.

I started to do various searches online to find out if others were able to ride a bike & walk the dog at the same time. Eventually, I came across a site that carried a hands free attachment that could be mounted onto the bicycle, and therefore attach the leash securely.

The only issue at the time was that I did NOT even own a bicycle. However, my birthday was coming up soon, and decided that was what I would purchase for myself (or put it on my wish list). With the birthday money that I received, I had more than enough to purchase the bike (and managed to find one in my favorite color), the handsfree attachment, and some miscellaneous PURPLE accessories for the bike.

I was so excited to be able to finally give my knees and ankles a break from pounding the pavement for lengthy periods of time. For the first time in a long while (or maybe ever), I actually looked forward to exercising and started to find it "fun." And Foxy is certainly getting enough exercise so that she can be a more balanced dog, and that is the best gift of all. I also think that seeing/hearing how excited I am after riding the bike in these past couple of months actually inspired DW to purchase a bike so that we could go bike riding together. And so, the mysterious woman has created a chain reaction without even realizing it, LOL.

Though the lady who initially inspired me may NEVER read this blog, I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude to her. She has no idea how seeing her for just that brief moment SPARKED the motivation for me to switch up my exercise routine and encourages me to continue this journey especially during those times when my mind wants to revert to old habits.

I think the same can be said to ALL of you out in SP land...you just never know who is watching you & is inspired by you.

Peace & Blessings....

That's great about getting yourself a bike and that Roxy has a way to tag along too. You can always make the bike stationary when the weather turns more wintery and it's not as safe to ride outside. Mind you, I don't ride a bike. I have an old rusty thing in the basement that I need to donate to a local charity. The trick is getting my act together to take it out of the basement. :)
Congrats again and Happy Birthday!
