New--starting over

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

I've done food logging off and on, but it didn't work until I changed the way I thought about food. I"m trying to see my food choices as FUEL choices. I would never put sand in my car gas tank or knowingly buy gasoline that had lots of crud in it--so I shouldn't do that to my body either!

Little by little, it's working. It's been hard being honest with myself about what I eat and why. My first step is to avoid fast food and soda pop. I used to fool myself into thinking that eating a hamburger without french fries a couple of times a week was okay. But honestly, it's like putting junk in my fuel tank 2 times a week--my car would quickly die!

I've been fairly successful. The few times I have eaten fast food, I chose the least-terrible option. I've had to change my thinking from "I deserve a treat, so I'm going to get a supersonic breakfast burrito" to my body deserves some good fuel--lets see what I have at home.

I haven't lost weight yet, but I feel more energetic.
