The Next Step...Steel Cut Oatmeal

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

I love oatmeal. It is a great breakfast that stays with you all morning and keeps those hunger pangs at bay. My favorite brand is Silver Palate Rough Cut Oats. I sometimes make it with milk, sometimes with unsweetened almond milk; I sometimes add blueberries or banana; I sometimes add a tablespoon of peanut or almond butter. The possibilities are endless!

But tomorrow, I am going to step it up a notch and try the steel cut oats that so many have raved about here at SP. At first, I was put off by the longer cooking time and used that as an excuse. But Trader Joe's solved that problem. It carries steel cut oats that cook in 8 minutes. That is more my speed. Another friend was raving about this, so I made a point of buying it and tomorrow I will try it. I will be interested to see how it compares to my old favorite!

I love 'em too. Someone told me you can use the crock-pot to cook them overnight. I haven't tried it yet, but if THAT works, oohh, you know what my breakfast will be--!

I get a brand called "Coach's Oats" . They cook in 5 minutes in the microwave, and are my go to food most mornings. I'll add dried cranberries or fresh apple.
