Discretion

Sunday, September 04, 2011

DH and I usually go out for bkfst on weekends. And we have a usual place where we go, the kind of place where everyone knows your name and the staff know your order.

Today we went somewhere different. Because they have waffles, and I LOVE waffles. There's nowhere else on island that usually has nice fresh waffles. So we went there.

I saw my principal. With his lady friend, not his wife. Having a nice romantic breakfast, I guess.

At first, when I walked in, I almost stuck my head around the room divider to say hi. Then I realized who he was with - so I went to the other part of the restaurant, and sat down. Principal and lady left shortly after that - DH saw principal walking to his car, but didn't say anything, he thought he was looking not great.

So - discretion. There's always the question of whether or not to say hello in a situation like that. Do I embarrass my principal, or do I pretend I didn't see them? I of course chose the latter. I'm not sure why, but it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Yeah, everyone pretends not to know - and a while back, someone called the wife and told her about Mr Principal and the other lady - wife told him it was the custodian who called and told her - so he then was all over Ms Custodian's case.

It's just awkward to run into him with other lady, especially after working together on Saturday and having his wife come to school for lunch with us. Just awkward.

If everyone knows why is it a big deal? Because everyone PRETENDS NOT to know, maybe?

I'll go back occasionally and HOPE I don't see him there with the lady friend!

WOW! I would avoid him and not say a word! Even if his wife knows I wouldn't want him to think I approve of such behavior. No more waffles for you. lol!

I agree that you did the right thing. It's embarrassing when something like that happens. Sounds like a little "Peyton Place" going on there.

His wife already knows - this has been going on for years, according to my close friend at school (who just happens to be principal's wife's cousin.........plus then she married the assistant principal - quite the little hotbed of relationships, our school!) - plus the girlfriend is a former principal of another school, now retired.

It's a mess! I really wonder about the principal's judgment!

Positootly you did the right thing. No way you say hello in that situation . . . you simply "didn't see him". And when you encounter him next at school, no indication at all that you in fact did!! Gonna be tough because . . he's gonna be wondering and scrutinizing your face, body language etc. etc.

Ain't love (or whatever) grand?? Completely eliminates judgment . . .

Principal is a silly ass to take his lady love to such a public place first thing in the morning. he is bound to get caught.
