September is here, and with it, for us teachers and for our students, comes the beginning of a new school year. For me, personally, what a year it's going to be. This year marks the 16th year of my job in the Parkview School District-a district I have proudly served and performed a job that I love. Now, for the first time in 16 years, I will be teaching High School Concert Choir along with the K-6 elementary music classes I already teach. That in-and-of-itself is a long story, but you can imagine the nervousness and apprehension that comes with performing duties I haven't had to perform since 1993 when I student-taught!! I'm excited and scared to death at the same time.
At home, my youngest daughter begins school, 4K, this year. It's hard to believe that my baby is old enough to carry a backpack and ride the bus every day! But my, how time goes so fast. My son begins Middle School this year, my Sophomore daughter is becoming a beautiful young woman, and my oldest baby girl just started college this week. Lots of adjustments for all of us, really.
Some things have had to go. I'm a busy lady, but I know that my priorities lie with my family and my job. I've resigned from the Board of Directors of the Theatre company I am involved in, and I'm on hiatus from doing any shows for awhile. I've got to get this right, AND keep my health and my sanity intact. It's too important!
Blessings to all of you teachers, parents and students as you embark on a new school year. Keep your stress to a minimum, your goals in sight, and reach for the stars!
