Back in civilization!!!

Friday, September 02, 2011

WOO HOO!!! Irene roared through here (and I mean, roared) and took away our electricity. This was Saturday night. Although, I don't live on the coast the last text from my daughter indicated we were getting gusts of 76 miles per hour. Someone else told me a few days later, there were gusts over 80. Whatever they were, the house shook at one point and it is a brick home.

The electric company generously supplies us with an emergency/update number and every night we were promised our power, however, this didn't happen until about 90 minutes ago. Nothing looks so good as a lit lightbulb right now. I am looking so forward to a hot shower and shaving my legs!!!

My home phone hasn't recovered from the earthquake and one of my cabinets won't close either, however, these are small things compared to not having lights.

My concentration will be on getting back on track with my food. I had all this planned out, however, I found out that the new gas stoves won't let themselves be lit when the electric is out. You can imagine my disappointment since we were going to live on our present food. I am sure my sugars are high and I gained a couple of pounds. I am not even going to worry about it, we have figured out a system now where we will eat better next time.

I am going now to relax. I picked up my first child care position and I am exhausted.

Thank God that you are okay. I have been so worried about you. Can you imagine how your old self would have dealt with the earthquake and a hurricane? You are doing awesome. I am just glad that things are getting more "civilized."

You are in my prayers as always.

Glad to hear that you have lights and electricity again! You do feel that you are living in the 1800's when you don't have lights & access to our modern appliances! Hope you didn't lose too much food! Several years ago, our electricity was out just long enough for me to have to throw out everything in our big freezer! And, of course, it was not covered by our home owners' insurance!
