How did you kick the Soda addiction

Wednesday, August 31, 2011

I need help kicking the red can! Coca Cola! I drink maybe three 12 oz cans per day, and lets not talk about the 32 oz fountain drink. I want to stop so bad, but I get pulled in everytime...it's like a person who smokes. Family & Friends don't understand that this is an addiction that I'm having a hard time stopping. My poor husband begs me to stop, asking me during the day, did you drink your water today?

Has anyone been this bad and was able to kick the can? If so please share with me how you did it

I'm happy to report, I'm doing well now. Almost to the point of cutting soda out!

This was helpful. It's nice to see I am not a lone with this. I am trying hard to kick this too. My daughter has Spina Bifida and she is always in the hospital, I use soda and food to help me cope with it all.

I used to drink several cans a day. Then when I was looking for calories to cut I switched to the diet stuff. Some where along the line I saw too many news reports about Aspertame (the most common sugar sub. used in soda) and the chemical effects and, Not to mention the rising cost of a 12 and 24 pack of soda, so I quit cold turkey. I occasionally have a few sips of a regular soda now and then, but it tastes So sweet to me now that I'd rather have just about anything else instead. Good luck in quitting. You have to want to stop in order to stop.

I was drinking at least two 44oz Dr Pepper's every day. I quit cold turkey about a month ago. Had a headache for a few days. I bought myself a "pretty" insulated cup with the plastic straw and switched to iced tea. We had a habit of going to Sonic daily. Now when we go I order a large water (I like their ice)
The other day my husband and I were out and I was super thirsty. He had a Dr Pepper and I took just a sip and about gagged. It was way too sweet for me...hurray!
You can do it!! emoticon

It is like all other habits or addictions, you have to find a substitute for it. I used to live on dirt coke and black coffee and I decided I wanted to give up the diet coke so I tried many things to substitute for the diet coke. I found flavored water and didn't want the diet coke any more. Flavored water now has controversy so I had to try to find a substitute for that. I now drink iced tea, sometimes with lemon and that got rid of the flavored water. So find something that you like that you can substitute for the coke.
Good luck and emoticon

I used to diet a diet coke ever day..some times two

But after reading all the articles about it, I decided that it was time to give it up...or at least cut back.

For two weeks, I didn't bring it into the house, then when I went out I always had a bottle of water with me.

Drink water with lemon it will help.

I have now got a box of diet coke, and for some reason I don't crave it like I did..
Try going with out it as long as you can, then maybe you will kick the habit..
Do you drink coffee or tea? Water water water

Do you like iced tea? I find that drinking loads of iced tea leaves me refreshed and not wanting soda so much. And ice water. And ice.

I have to admit I have usually one Coke Zero (20 oz bottle with lots of ice) during the summer days. But a couple of years ago I lived on coke. For a while, when my mom was on hospice before she passed away I often said God and Coke were keeping me going. After she passed away I continued it for a couple of months until I ended up at the hospital with IV's because I was dehydrated because Coke was about all I drank. That shook me up and made me start drinking much more water, and Gatorade for a while. Now when I hike I drink Powerade Zero but not Gatorade anymore. And lots of water because I don't want to get that sick again. But I still have my weakness but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be and it's sugar free now.
Good luck on dealing with your addiction. I do know what you mean! I have a friend who's addicted to Dr. Pepper.

YES! I am hooked on pepsi max and coke zero!! I drink a six pack a day--wow, good think it is not beer. A few months ago I gave up all pop AND caffeine. I felt great but then I started allowing myself one a day---and now I am right back where I started. First I am going to start drinking caffeine free for a week and then I am going to cut down to three a day for a week, then two, then one...I feel for you. I quit smoking 15 years ago and have never even had a puff since. But my pop, I will be happy if I can keep it at one a day! Good luck and hope this helps a little to know you are not alone!!
