I left off my Scottish adventure at Inverness. We were sad to leave the lovely Bed and Breakfast we stayed at but we had more sites to see.
We stopped at a Distillery ( Tomatin) so the guys could go on a tour. We had just missed one so they told them they could watch the movie and have a smaple instead ( or wait an hour). The movie was pretty similar to the one at the Isle of Arran but the guys were happy ( which is all that matters).
On the way we stopped at a very cute little Village. I can only find one picture that we took there
We had to pull over to the side of the road when we saw this
(oops That's me at Glamis Castle)
and this ( in the same spot)
We decided to drive to the Village that My family came from ( My Dad's Mother's side) a long time ago. They moved to Andover, Massachusetts in 1848. We went to a Cathedral in the town. Brechin, in Angus County and looked for headstones. The more ancient ones were sadly crumbly but I was happy to see it..to be there..
Then we got to Dundee where we would spend the next 4 days. Dundee is a bustling city. We
stayed right by the Tay bridge. Perfect location. We were able to walk to the McDonalds ( for free wifi because the Hilton charges crazy rates!) and to what became our favorite Pub. It was a Bank once upon a time. I ate Fish and Chips and Smashed Peas and drank many Beers. Also, the Tay Bridge leads to St. Andrews. I LOVED st. Andrews..which is not a big surprise. It was raining the first day we went there. Which kind of s_cked for the men. They were playing The Castle Course that day.
Nancy and I didn't care. We were just happy to not be stuck on an island waiting for a bus.
We went to the Golf Museum which is right at The old Course. We planned where to meet and then we spent the day shopping and eating. I loved it!!!
Nancy bought a Cashmere Coat that I'm sure she will wear forever. I ate sausage rolls and Jammie tarts and other food. We got to go to Tesco. I know that people probably thought we were idiots but it was on my list of things to do..and I did it!
When we met the husbands we were all happy. I took a picture that I now can't find of them with the biggest smiles. My husband, who has played a LOT of Golf in his time said it was his favorite course ever. EVER!!! They asked us if we had seen the historic area of St. Andrews..we said Historic area?
We went back a couple of days later..when it was clear and the sun was out what a difference.
We also went to Glamis Castle
(oops he was in St. Andrews)
The last Weekend was in Edinburgh.
Edinburgh is a big bustling place. We had a really hard time finding our hotel. It wwas up a very steep hill and down an alley. It was also just off the main street leading up to the Castle. Luckily that meant we could park the car and walk everywhere.
If I ever make it back to Edinburgh I will go durning the week and I will get a bus pass. We missed I'm sure all kinds of fun and interesting things.
But I guess rather than moan about what we missed I should be thrilled with what I got to do!!!
