I bet most martial arts students have heard at one time or other that "the best way to avoid getting hit is to run away". Ah, but what if you can't run? That's always been my problem, and this August I decided to do something about it. I joined the SP "5k your way walk/jog" 5 week program. The first 4 weeks weren't too bad. I still don't "love" running but I was able to stick with the program.
Today I started week 5. I've figured out that 1 lap=400m, therefore 12.5 laps=5km. When I completed today's program, I had walked and jogged 10.5 laps. Then I got competitive. Only 2 laps left? I can do that! I did another 3min walk and started running again. After I finished the 3 min run I was still short of my goal so I kept on running for 2 more minutes and walked the last 100 meters or so. 3.15 miles=5.07km!
I'll be finishing out the week though and try to improve my time. And then? Well, karate is starting up again after Labour Day but I'm considering to continue with the C25k program.
