My triathlon is in a few weeks. I successfully completed this sprint triathlon last September and I am almost ready for year 2.
The swim - I have worked very hard all year because the 1/2 mile swim was my weakness last year. I joined the YMCA to swim indoors this winter and I participated in a tri swim clinic. This summer I swam about 1/2 mile at the lake with my friend almost every Saturday & Sunday morning. I bought a better fitting, sleeveless wetsuit. I am so glad I went with sleeveless, it feels so much less restrictive. Yesterday morning a did a group swim at the park where the race will be. I am feeling a lot better about the swim. I just need to stay relaxed in the actual race.
The bike- Last year I felt fine in the 14 mile route, but, I was pretty slow. I used a mountain bike. After the race I bought a road bike (love Craig's list!). It is sloooo much faster with the same effort. I did the same route as a practice this week. Without REALLY pushing myself, I completed the whole route 30 minutes faster than my race time last year! Now, I have been wanting bike shoes with clipless pedals and my husband bought them for me as an early birthday present. I am a little worried that I won't have time to get used to them before the race. I tried them for the first time last night - fell twice (nothing big) - so I clearly need practice. I have 3 weeks to adjust. If I can't get it down, I will put the old pedals on for the race.
The run- I hope I haven't neglected the run too much. I have continued to run all summer, but often my runs are a little shorter than the 5k distance of the race. But, I should be fine. I did run a 10k this spring, so I KNOW I can do this.
I am getting excited for the race! This year my 15 year old son is also doing the sprint distance with me. My 12 year old son will do the youth race again.
