looking for a gym buddy

Saturday, August 27, 2011

Think I'll inquire at the gym about getting paired up with another member for the month of September and see if I can be more consistent in my exercise. If that's not possible, I'll plan to go to daily classes at least 3 times a week. What I really want is
1) to do more strength training
2) to not focus on the scale ... but to see improvements there as a result of consistent effort
3) to establish a routine and see changes with a partner that will keep me motivated.

Sometimes the journal and measurements are not enough. Having a buddy will get me to the gym because it will keep me accountable and add that social aspect I crave.

That is good idea, having someone to work out with. I have a phobia for gym so on gym membership for me. I have had walking buddies and it makes the workout enjoyable and easy. Just meeting someone to work out is a great boost in itself and you do not want to let them down. Good luck and I know you will do it.

I'm going to see if I can ask them at my gym too. They'll try to sell me a "personal training package" but I will push past that. Thanks for the idea.

I agree with you having someone there with you really helps. I have my sister in Maryland and my daughter in Hawaii. We are all doing the gym thing and we talk about it as much as possible and that helps. I have my trainer at my gym. I took a friend on mine on Wednesday and Thursday on a 5 days Free Pass, and that felt very good.

Wishing you luck on finding a buddy, I agree that it is easier when you have someone pushing and keeping you company

I finally went to my very first group fitness class on Friday morning, and I regret not having gone sooner! I was so intimidated for so long, thinking I'd be the least fit and not be able to keep up, but it was awesome! And if you find a class you like you will probably find some people you like, too, and look forward to seeing them each time!

Do you want an actual gym buddy or is a virtual one good as well?

I can relate and agree with everything that you have said. Personally, I feel a gym buddy would help me not feel so intimidated at the gym. I am going to seriously seek a gym/exercise buddy. You have inspired me!
