So, I'm waiting for Irene. It's kinda like waiting for a relative you don't really like to arrive at your home. You dread the arrival, and the time together isn't the most pleasant.
This is my first hurricane. I've been through tornado warnings (I've only seen spinning funnel clouds but never a touchdown), but I've never been through something like this. I'm not panicking, but I am concerned. I'm currently glued to TWC.
I have some amazing friends who sent me their packing lists for emergency situations, and I've followed it according to what I believe is necessary in our situation. Mr and I did, however, look at labels while shopping for our supplies. We went during the day (while we were still on vacation) so we didn't get caught up in mob mentality or shop without looking. We stocked up on fruit in its own juice, low fat/sodium soups and canned veggies. We also have plenty of water. If power goes down, we are ready with a butane heater and our food. We hope that we can stay healthy with the healthiest choice of food we could get.
Our hearts and prayers go out to other people in the path of Irene. Please be safe. I'll see you throughout the weekend.
