Blue Sky Inspiration

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Here in Northeast Ohio, we've been having the kind of skies that make most anything seem possible. Even stepping out for my first run in months.

If you're not from the Cleveland area, you may not be understand the gray curtain that hangs over the region for a good eight months of the year. When you add in the sweltering heat this summer has boasted, we're up to nearly a full year of crap-tastic weather.

So, with a day in the upper 70s with the brightest, most wonderfully blue sky, I finally felt Sparky enough to get out for my first run since ... who knows when.

Of course, it helps that my schedule this week is kind of whacky and I found myself with an extra 40 minutes before my husband went to work and I went on kid duty.

I walked a quarter mile for warm-up before I started trotting around our development. I made it 1.5 miles, moving at a very slow, even pace. I finished feeling like I could have gone a little farther with more time. Now THAT'S encouraging!

I can tell that I've been out of the exercise routine for too long because my neighbor (who moved in during winter) was shocked to see me out running and gave me a lengthy lecture about the benefits of working out.

It felt good to sweat again and I'm looking forward to the start of school when I can get back on a regular schedule and back in the gym each afternoon. I even felt good enough to take a Before Picture:

** There's an ill-placed shadow -- I promise I didn't pee my pants!!

Wishing everyone bright skies and fluffy, hopeful clouds.
