I am quite the fickle person when it comes to working out.
My last blog entry was titled "HIIT (?) Workout 1". That's was the first and last HIIT workout I did. I got a bit distracted and ended up training for and speed-walking a half marathon in 8 weeks.
So, what now?
I still feel burned out from endurance running. I was excited about it after the half. Being in a race makes me want to be in another, and another. Then, I did a Jeff Galloway-style run earlier this week. It was fine, but I didn't love it. Two days later, I had scheduled myself to run again. I ended up doing Firm & Burn Pilates (my favorite workout video), adding in weights for the first time. I really enjoyed it and it got me out of bed.
Maybe distance running is just not for me. I feel guilty giving it up--like I am quitting.
On the positive side, I am having a lot of fun doing Netflix and DVD workouts. It's so much easier to just plan to workout in my living room at 7am every day. Plus, I get the variety. If I am feeling sore or tired, I can do pilates. If I am feeling energetic, but not up for strength training, I can play a dance video game.
I did enjoy my HIIT experiment, so I think I will work some sprints and stair workouts into the mix for when I want to go outside to workout. There's a big outdoor staircase right near my home with a ramp going back down. That seems like a good interval workout just waiting to happen.
I just got Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred because of some great reviews on SparkPeople. So, that's my current workout plan for the next month, but who knows, I may get bored of it and do something completely different next week. I guess the important thing is to meet my goal of working out at least 5 times per week.
