Saturday, August 20, 2011

This morning I relaxed and didn't get dressed for lunch and mahj with my every other Friday group until about 10 a.m.

Marlene, our sub for Barbara (she is visiting her son and his new baby girl in Argentina) met me in the hall and we drove together to Fiddleheads for our game. It was a wonderful game. I lost $2.90. I only Mahj'ed once, but it was a fun afternoon

I came home and watched a little TV and warmed up our dinner which was leftover meat loaf and roasted salad potatoes. It was delicious, always good the next day.

Tonite my hubby watched the Packer game and I watched some pretaped shows and now I am going to read a little. I stopped reading Stolen Childhood since the print was so small I had to use a magnifier in order to read it and it just wasn't worth the effort. Then I started Human Stain by Phillip Roth. This author is a verbal pompous jerk. Each sentence is a paragraph. He writes like he is trying to impress you with his knowledge of words. He continues to use semi colons to connect three, four or five sentences. When you have finished reading one sentence you have forgotten his initial thought, That one is going back to the library. I also have his latest book "Nemesis" and its like a different author. No run on sentences, His thoughts on short and concise. It is a short novel about the polio scare in the 50s when I grew up, so I can relate to the panic it cause when anyone's child became ill.

So now I will close this blog and go back to the book

OOOHHHH, I'll have to read "Nemesis". I grew up in the 50's as well (though I was "youngish") but I remember the polio scare, the "sugar cube" vaccine (that's what we called it and what kid would turn down a sugar cube vs. a shot! LOL Alas, now they're back to the vaccine . . . anyway I digress).

Hope that you have a great Saturday.

I hate it when authors are more impressed with their form than their function.
