My experience with the Juice Fast, Soups for Lunch, and feeling skinner wrap up.

Friday, August 19, 2011

On Sunday my husband and I started the Juice Fast, based off the now famous documentary, on NetFlix. Hey, it was really inspirational. Live off of juice for a few days? Drop 10 pounds and cleanse, sounds great!

Was it?

Heck No.

I hated it from the start. The juice tasted awful and the smell of my husband juicing broccoli and celery ( veggie tales anyone?) is something I'll never forget. Not to mention, the juices sometime had bit and pieces in it and foam. The first day I took 2 sips of my breakfast juice and that was all I could handle. The lunch juice, same thing. By then, I was weak, starving, and had a horrible headache. So, I ate a fruit cup for dinner.

Anorexia? Sounded like it.

Day 2, we made the Mean Green Juice and 1. it was better and 2. I could get it down but, the smell of celery was awful and that's all I could focus on. I got about 1/4 of the drink down for breakfast. By lunch, I gave up and subway. Dinner? We made soup, 133 calories for a serving and my total calories for the day, 580. Starvation anyone?

Day 3, I surrendered. I was so weak and hungry and all I could think about was food. Anything and ANYTHING sounded good. So, I tried to stay "good". I had a slimfast shake for breakfast, soup for lunch, and soup for dinner. 700 something calories total and OH DID I FEEL FULL!

After that I was officially done with my Juice Fast.

My husband did one more day on it, because he was brave enough. After all that I had lost 1 pound and he had lost 6. Not amazing, but not horrible. But, for all that we went through, I expected more!

Wednesday, Thursday and Today. I've been doing my Nutrigain bar and soup for lunch, and either soup for dinner/low low low calorie meal. I've been at or about 1,000 calories a day. Which, I'm happy with.

The past week has been one like no other. In addition to all my crazy fast/eating/starvation/verg of anorexia, I've been running, every other day and really pushing myself. I got in 3 runs this week, which is great!

I'm feeling better about myself in the mirror, regardless of my weight loss, and thats what matters most. I'm hoping though, tomorrow, I'm in the 150's. It's been my goal for a while now! My next goal will be, 140's before the cruise December 31, 2011.

Did I mention my husband and I are doing the body by Vi shakes next month. I'm super excited and hoping it will really kick our weight loss into gear.

I really need to get my husband on spark people. He's getting curious about it.... emoticon

HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE (at my office) Woo, go Master Degrees!

I'm sorry you didn't have a good experience with the juice fast. I second Lia's suggestion to add fruit to the juice. I've been drinking a lot of Mean Green and I don't think I'd enjoy it much without the apple.

Did you check out They have several plans that mix juicing with meals. They look pretty good.

Hi! Thanks for the comment on my blog. Your little girl is precious! You look so very cute as well. I read through your blog and saw your struggle with juice fasting. I actually took Joe Cross's advise that to eat veggies and fruits for 5 days before I started my juice fast. It really helps. Guess I've been a vegan for almost 2 years now. That also helps. I think you need to come up with a strategic eating plan. I found that if I don't eat after 6 pm, it helps lose/maintain weights easier. For me, 10 days of juice fast is an experiment. I sort of want to see if my skin will really glow and how in general I will feel about myself. It's also a test of self-control which I constantly struggle with. If I can make it to day 11, I've succeeded in transforming myself in a way I was not able to previously.
