Personal Revival Study Series: A Seeking Heart

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Last study we looked at the “Humble Heart” who prays for revival. Today we will look at the “Seeking Heart”.

2 Chronicles 7:14 states, If My People who are called by My name shall humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

The scripture is clearly saying that if we come before God with a humble heart seeking His face He will hear us, He will forgive us and He will heal our land.

A seeking heart is someone who is truly looking for answers. A seeking heart is one who is searching, one who is on the lookout for answers as they seek the face of God in prayer. As we seek to hear from God and fulfill our calling there is no telling what God may do with a life that is totally surrendered.

The question here is; do we have a heart who is truly seeking after the Face of God? Are we filled with a Passion for God? Is our heart filled with God’s Love?

A seeking heart is one who gives himself or herself completely over to God. That is committing your Mind, Body and Spirit completely with out holding anything back. This is dying daily to self. Being consumed with seeking God’s best for our lives.

Matthew 7:7-8 New Living Translation

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Scripture is clearly encouraging us to seek, ask and knock, other words don’t give up, continue to seek the Face of God, when we do we will have the answers we are seeking after. When our heart is completely surrendered to God and we are seeking God with a pure heart, with right motives we will see the Hand of God move in our lives and in those around us.

Revival begins with a heart who is truly seeking after God. A B Simpson was a man who totally committed his life over to Jesus. Daily he prayed, he had a heart that was totally seeking the Will of God for his life. As a result of those prayers God sent a revival not only to the city of Louisville but God revived Simpson’s heart. As a consequence he was greatly used to win a harvest of souls for Christ.

As we wait on God, seek the Lord in Prayer and seek to surrender all to Jesus we too can hear the Still Small Voice of God and be Men and Women after God’s Own Heart.

2 Chronicles 7:14

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

If we want Revival to come to our Cities, to our World and finally to our own lives we need to follow some guidelines that have been outlined in 2 Chronicles 7:14.

1. We need to have a Humble Heart
2. Confess Sin in Our Lives
3. Seek Forgiveness
4. Forgive Others
5. Turn from Our Wicked Ways
6. Follow Christ Whole-heartedly

As individuals and churches are renewed they prepare the way for revival to happen in their communities and in their countries. When the Holy Spirit is outpoured on the people and people begin to change they affect the lives of others who come along their path.

We can learn from Simpson and be men and women who inspire others to live a live that is committed to serving Jesus and one that is committed to serving others. As we seek to hear from God and fulfill our calling there is no telling what God may do with a life that is totally surrendered. A life that is fully surrendered to Jesus can be a life that will do great exploits for God. Indeed Revival begins in the hearts of the people. As our hearts are changed, it then spreads out to others, and beyond, impacting lives to the Glory of God. Let us earnestly be Seekers after God’s Own Heart. Let us have Hearts that are totally surrendered to God, waiting on Him for His Will & Purpose to be fulfilled in our lives. Amen!!!

CLOSING THOUGHTS

To re-cap our study on Revival, Seeking God with our Whole Heart we will review the topic having a Heart who is truly “Seeking” after God.

We have learned that a “Seeking Heart” is one who is truly surrendering their life to God in prayer. A seeker is one who desires change and who is looking for God’s Best for their lives.

Psalm 17:5 New Living Translation

My steps have stayed on your path;
I have not wavered from following you.

Amos 5:4 For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek Me and you will live.

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

A “Seeking Heart” is one who is continuously seeking the Face of God in Prayer. One who never wavers from following after God and one who keeps their “Eyes Fixed on Jesus” the “Author and Finisher of their Faith”.

As we wait on God, seek the Lord in Prayer and seek to surrender all to Jesus there is no telling what God may do whose life is committed to serving Him. As Hearts are changed and set on fire for God it paves the way for revival to come to our own hearts and to those we come in contact with us.

As our hearts are changed, it then spreads out to others, our communities and beyond, impacting lives to the Glory of God. Indeed let us have Heart’s who are Seeking after God. Let us be known as Men and Women after God’s Own Heart.

Our heart and the health and well being of our heart, the love we have flowing from our heart to others, forgiveness to others, believing and receiving into our heart all that Jesus and Holy Spirit from our Father God has to offer us just by us being in faith and believing and receiving all of His grace, truth and mercy and compassion and love and power and authority that He has given us by way of His shed blood at His cross.

Jesus is all there is and Holy Spirit who dwells in us reveals Him to us more and more with each new day.
