What was I thinking?

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

I ran today. I haven't run since I was in school, and if you look at my SparkPage, you'll be able to determine that that was a LONG time ago ... I've been waking up in the mornings lately thinking that I could run - enjoy the outdoors, not have to deal with moving things around in the den in order to do a video workout, or get to the elliptical. But I didn't. Until this morning. And this is day three of a cold - not a horrible cold, but still, the nose is running, the lungs are not at their peak. So - I ran. My legs felt it a bit at first, but not much. My lungs, however - they did NOT like it. It was 56 degrees this morning, but according to my lungs, it was closer to 32. Not fun. It's also a good thing that I wore my heart monitor. Every time it started beeping at me (I have it set to go off if I go over 168 bpm), I walked. So, I ran only about half the time. But - according to the monitor, I burned about 500 calories. So - I ran today - woohoo!

I just read your blog. Did you run again? I'm afraid it would be too hard on my knees; so I walk, but the idea of running sounds great!

Yesterday morning I ran-just a bit. It was actually a jog walk. We walked the rail trail as a group and we akways go to the bakery for coffee. The group goes in the cars but I always walk the extra distance to make it 4 miles. They all left but I could not get across the road. I walked very fast and suddenly I was JOGGING. It felt good I have not done that since 2004 back injury. Now I will make it a habit, jog-walk for a while. I am almost 68 years old. Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon

I'm impressed! emoticon No matter how many blogs I read about running, I know it is not for me. I only run when somebody chases me, and that hasn't happened in eons! If it works for you though, by all means continue. It was a HUGE calorie burn. That must be a great encouragement when you factor in the lungs, temps and aching legs. Good for you! Keep it up!

Awesome. I did some running this spring for the first time since I was in school (and I'm 58). I may run some more after it cools down this fall.
