The difference a pair of jeans can make

Friday, August 12, 2011

It's obvious. It's common sense. It's really true. Clothes make the person.

When I wear a baggy pair of pants and a baggy t-shirt I feel frumpy and invisible. I lack confidence. I go in and out of my cubicle and don't stop to socialize with coworkers.

When I wear a tighter pair of pants and tuck in my shirt I feel confident and attractive. I look for people to talk to when I'm up getting a glass of water or coming back from the ladies room or whatever.

I do catch myself in the mirror and realize I still have a long way to go. That shirt is tucked in but that fat is still there, however I still feel better about myself somehow. I remind myself of who I was 20 years ago when I weighed 20 pounds less than I do now. I was still overweight then, but I was single and confident and the weight didn't bother me the way it does now.

So tuck it in, suck it in, pull yourself together... it's obvious. The better I look, the better I feel, and the more motivated I am to keep myself on track!

I totally agree. Lately I've been dressing nicer at the office. Instead of the worn frayed dockers, I'm wearing sundresses and nicer slacks. It does make a difference.

Totally agree! When I started I was 11 pounds higher than I'd maintained at for several years. All my clothes were too tight and I felt (and looked) bad about it every day. That's why my first reward - for just 6 pounds lost - was new BIGGER but stylish clothes that made me feel good. Only I know the number on the tag and I looked better when that number was bigger!

It's also important to buy some clothes on the way down! DH has lost a bunch of weight because I'm the cook and grocery shopper. People didn't even notice until he started buying smaller clothes. Don't hide all your hard work!
