After being stuck in the endless abyss of nights (whether this be working nights or little light outside during the day time) it is very nice to get some much needed sunshine.

I know that most people would not think about the way that the environment outside affects their mood and their eating habits, but after living in Alaska for the last three years- it is something that cannot be avoided. Now- I am not going to and blame weight gain on the fact that it is dark outside, but I am going to talk about the difference that a little sunshine makes.

I am one of those people that gets outside as soon as enough of the snow has melted that it is not dangerous to run on the road. I soak up every bit of sunlight that I can and right now I am at home. Home, for me, means hot days and many hours in the pool (as opposed to hours running), but that is one of the most enjoyable things that I can do. I have probably sweat buckets in the last week just sitting outside, but that doesn't mean that the exercise has stopped and I can honestly say that I am a bit surprised. Other people may not think this way, but after several years of coming home for a visit and falling off the band wagon of eating right, this is actually changing. I am managing to eat right and it is absolutely worth every little inconvenience it might bring.
