Flat Lining

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

At the doctor's office for regular checkup. Nurse tries to take EKG reading. First try, no reading. Second try, no reading and she tells me I'm flat lining. Third try, no reading and she tells me it must be my low pulse rate. Fourth try, gets a good reading and all looks good on the heart. Guess all of my running has some positive effect on my pulse rate.

    Oh wow...
Yeah us runner's have healthy low pulse rates. When I've had surgery the anesthesiologist asks if I'm an athlete...and I'm of course modest, yet say...I love to run and have done a couple races! and they're like..."A runner...yep we knew it!"

It was more like a malfunction of their equipment. The machine had trouble picking up my pulse since my heart rate was so low. I knew I was fine and it was an equipment problem.

Similar experience here. After my ecg, the nurse said, "Your heart rate is quite low. Are you having any symptoms?" When I assured her I was not, she conceded that I am very fit. Gotta love this new level of health and fitness. Yay, SparkPeople!!!!
