Give Me What I Ordered

Monday, August 08, 2011

For lunch today after finishing an attic we had few choices of places to eat. The place we finally chose does have very good side salads in addition to their burger baskets.

I ordered a simple burger with a side salad. The gal who wasn't listening to me when I ordered rung me up for a basket that included pop and fries. I told her I just wanted the sandwich and side salad with water, and she insisted that I take the whole more expensive and more food basket. I was so frustrated and wanted to actually pay for and get what I had ordered.

My husband was too tired to argue, and he just wanted to pay the double price for food and pop we all knew I was going to through away. I stopped the fuss and just took what everybody made me get, throwing away cash and the extra food.

I was furious with the disempoerment forced upon me by not only the apparently deaf employee who refused to rectify the problem but especially my husband who wouldn't give me the time to stand up for myself.

He's in big trouble now. In the privacy of the truck on our way home I let him know that I will not allow him to ignore my requests for specific food requests, or I will cancel all of my order and leave him in the restaurant alone to eat his own order.

Fight's over now, but I'm not feeling much better yet. I'm not a push over and really, really, really dislike being publicly forced to be one. I need to take comfort in knowing that I will NOT let it happen again.

Thanks for listening to my rant about one of my failures.

Thank you for the support. I decided not to make my husband uncomfortable because he was very tired, but in doing that I allowed not only the employee but also my husband to push me around.

You're right, nets time I won't let that happen, and i made sure he understood that after we were in the privacy of our pickup. No point in starting a public vendetta with everybody around me at the time of the incident.

Again, thanks for the support. I am feeling quite a bit better today.

Hi! I'm going through this "I need to be assertive phase" too at the moment. I think the key is to stand up for yourself the moment you're feeling walked on - if they don't listen, assert yourself again..make it your responsibility to make yourself heard! emoticon emoticon
