I'm a grad student, and usually have access to the university gym(s). Unfortunately, they just posted a notice: the gym is closed until August 29, the first day of fall classes.
So, what's plan B? Well, I'm going on a whirlwind biking/kayaking trip for two days, and hope to rack up some mileage while I think about this new issue. I was hoping that the downtime between now and fall term would be a good time for me to implement some new habits, including a morning gym visit (mornings are not generally welcomed in this house, but these are NEW habits...).
I'm thinking that maybe I'll switch to something else for the next few weeks-- but what? I'm pretty sensitive to heat and really try not to be outside during the hottest parts of the day-- and we've been part of the recent heat waves. It was 92 here yesterday; 94 with the humidity. On the other hand, if the forecasts are to be believed, things might be cooler this week. If I stick to my morning workout resolution, I could go for a run before the heat really picks up. There's a power (hot) yoga place within walking distance, but I'm not sure that's a good idea until the weather cools off a bit in the fall. Maybe I could look into a local gym that would be willing to let me join for the month of August for a reduced rate or just try to keep my outdoor workouts to early morning and after dusk.
I haven't been sleeping well lately, which is an issue. We have a window a/c unit in the upstairs bedroom that is really noisy, but the room is pretty much unbearable (~85-89 or higher on the thermostat) without it. Not sure what else to do about that. Earplugs?
Anyhoo, I need to map out a plan in my head and execute. That's the way forward. Now I just need to do it...
