My Outstanding Folklorama Experience !

Saturday, August 06, 2011

Recently, one of my first Spark-friends, who is on two Spark-Teams with me,
asked me to share some of my Folklorama experiences ! Week 1 ends today.
The weather has been pleasant, all week ! We had a little rain shower, on the
second day, but I think that we needed that rain. That was on a day that we
had a ride to and from the Pavilion, so it really didn't matter. All throughout
Folklorama, we've enjoyed watching the dancers perform the various folk-dances,
in the national dress. I enjoyed the occasions, when we were able to walk,
from one Pavilion to another ! One time, we walked into the Shriner's Parade,
on our way back, from a Pavilion ! Oh, the joys of having nice weather !
Last night, the distance was too great, between the two Pavilions, so we
got rides. The last Pavilion impressed us the most ! They showed a nice video
about the country, on a large screen. They had an excellent display area,show-
casing their national dress, written language, pottery, and other artifacts.
An elderly man explained to us some details about their language.
That was after we had been entertained by dancers, starting at a very young age,
to the adults. There was also an impressive display of some skillful martial arts,
performed by young men, and women.Meanwhile, there was some delicious
food available to enjoy. What really impressed us, was that the dancers, and
martial arts performers , made themselves readily available for photo ops.
They were " right there ! " And they were also thanking us very much, for coming !
We definitely plan to visit them again, next year !

Sounds wonderful!! I am going to miss our folfest this year. As the pavilions are spread out all throughout the city, they offer a free bus service between them. The neat part is the youth ambassadors are on these buses telling us what is going on in the various places!!
I had my foot surgery Aug 4, meaning I will be missing the Folkfest and the exhibition as well :(. But its been a nice recovery, the summer has been great and I have enjoyed the warm, sunny weather, sitting outside reading.
Hope your summer has been better, I know your weather was really awful there for a while!
