Home again Home again jiggity-jig

Thursday, August 04, 2011

I am having a tequila sunrise in a "new-to-me" crystal goblet. I had a goblet of water first so I wouldn't hydrate with the oj and hard stuff. My weight is up after vacation and as I suspected, this week has not been workout friendly. In the past, it would have taken me a week to unpack. Now I have cleared not only the suitcase down to the toiletries and I've unpacked the breakables and 2 boxes of the dishes and crystal sent home with us.

Now that I'm home, it's time to get aggressive with exercise and discipline (welcome home cocktail signifies the end of vacation). I'm looking forward to reengaging exercise routines even if it means getting up early to wake up early for the morning workout. I do them much better if I'm awake. The 5:30 am neighborhood . . . and then I'll be ready for when I wake up my daughter at 5 am for school later this month.

To recap, exercise broke down at the start of summer, and then there was some spotty restarts heading into vacation to visit family. In that time, I have seen that exercise has really made a difference. This is something that seemed elusive before. The thyroid medication has made it possible to respond normally to diet and exercise, and now I'm seeing that the exercise has specific benefit. Not only am I going to remedy vacation, but I'm planning to go for getting all of that stuff that has been on for the years of not knowing that my thyroid was whack and going for some definition if not strength! It would be fantastic to do a real push-up -- I continue to struggle with modified ones. And I have a pull up bar. Upper arm strength is the most difficult, but going lax has shown me that my work was making a significant difference.

Thank-you to my dear sparkies who kept commenting and liking while I was getting my log-in points on vacation. I'm so far behind in my blog reading! I have to tell you that it was fun to hear my cousin's wife talk about doing the 5% challenge on sparkpeople! I whipped around and said, you have to sparkfriend me! and she did!!

I don't "work" tomorrow, but I'll check in with the office and get my schedule straightened up. Then I'll check all my quick fire stuff and figure out a workout around laundry, returning the rental car, and planning salad for the wine and cheese (Wisconsin cheese) for tomorrow night with friends. I'll plan my workout and diet schedule too. I'm a firm believer in real life measures because I've already put myself through the whacko diets.
When I make a plan it has sometimes taken me three weeks or longer to get in put in place. This will happen faster, with exercise first and then harnessing the diet. I have half of tomorrow planned already: yogurt, toast and banana for breakfast, soup and half of a hummus falafel pita from the road trip for lunch. Then grocery shopping for that fab salad to accompany wine and Wisconsin Cheese.

Enjoy the weekend all!!

Welcome home! I lost it with family being here a week; going away .... I thought I had enough discipline. Getting back on track will be easier this time since you already have a plan, the knowledge & tools. I'm impressed with the pull up bar emoticon emoticon emoticon . I'm off to workout; will be in touch. BIG emoticon
