How many grams in a portion of ___

Monday, August 01, 2011

Right now we are having a freggies challenge in the 5% Challenge Spark Team.

Right now we have fresh cucumbers!

I googled, "how many grams in a portion of cucumbers" and came up with several hits, the best one having a calculator that can also be downloaded!

You can look on the USDA website and see how many grams they reckon a cup would hold of most foods:
www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/fo
odcomp/search/

or download it to use when not online:
www.ars.usda.gov/Service
s/docs.htm?docid=5720

It's not perfect - didn't work for my figs -
but it works for pineapple, strawberries, tomatoes and cucumbers
BTW, cucumbers with peel, 1/2 cup = 52 grams.

Now you know where all my freggie portions are coming from - and I omitted 2 yesterday when I posted 15 instead of 17.

This is the food scale I am using for 2 years now and loving it!

I have enjoyed reading your blogs and your journey to a healthy weight. You look amazing.

I like the link to the scale too. I don't have one, but I do measure with cups and bowls. Maybe I need to invest in a scale too. Move over counter space!

Thanks for helpful blog, Linda. My little digital scale can't compare to yours, but it works okay...measures ounces and grams. I do love Freggies and try to eat as many as possible.
I'm so proud of your accomplishments and all you do to keep healthy and fit. You are an inspiration and encouragement to me.

    Wow, 52 grams.
I never used a such good sophisticated scale. Maybe I need to get a better one. It's a good thought. Thank you.
