Earlier this week I watched the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead about regaining health/losing weight through juicing fruits and vegetables. The two main characters lost a lot of weight, but what caught my attention was a lady that did a juice fast for 17 days and got relief from migraines she had been having for years. I've had migraines since I was 10 years old (over 30 years now!) and the last three months they have been almost daily. Back in April I was doing really well - going to the gym and following a healthy diet, but toward the end of the month every time I went to the gym it triggered a migraine. I went to the neurologist and she said the increase in blood pressure when I exercised was triggering the migraines. I quit exercising and soon my diet turned to junk as well - as a result I'm almost 10 pounds heavier than I was three months ago, now 20 pounds heavier than I'm comfortable weighing. Any weight lost by doing this juice fast will be a bonus, but my main goal from this is relief from the headaches.
I have a menu I'm following that has four juice "meals" per day, plus two glasses of coconut water. I'll also be drinking plenty of water and some herbal tea. It will provide between 1200 and 1600 calories and around 40 g of protein.
I also plan to start exercising again - using my Wii to do some walking or other low intensity exercise and gradually up the intensity as I'm able. It just hit me yesterday that I haven't gotten any exercise in three months now - one fourth of a year gone with no exercise - yikes!
I went to the store today to stock up on produce - that was a challenge in itself as it took going to four stores and two farmers markets to find all the different produce on my list. But now my fridge is stocked with healthy stuff, my juicer is out and ready to go
