What We Won't Do For A T-Shirt
Wednesday, July 27, 2011
I signed up for the Lazy Man Triathlon at the YMCA. It went from June 1st to July 15th. I had to Swim 1.5 miles (about 135 laps), bike 112 miles, and walk or run 26 miles.
I made a 6 week plan so I knew what I had to do each week to keep on schedule. I did 45 minute deep water exercise classes which counted for so many laps. After that I did 5 miles on the recumbent bike. That's about all I could do at one time because after 20 minutes on that bike I couldn't feel my John Brown hind parts anymore. I used Google Maps to plot a 1 mile route around our neighborhood and took the dog for a lot of walks. Some days I called foul because it was either raining, too hot, or both, but I managed to clock the 26 miles that I needed.
I finally got my T-shirt last Friday. There wasn't any personal accountability, other than the honor system. All you had to do was turn in your filled out card by July 15th. I can wear my T-shirt with pride because I completed the challenge, and you can't be lazy and do that. I've never been so excited about getting a T-shirt before. I'm going sign up for other challenges at the YMCA and start collecting T-shirts.
