Wandering priorities.

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

The last few days I've realized all I'm doing is worrying about my brother's family coming in state. Keep thinking that I'll be gone for a week - away from my exercise routine and equipment. Then it's possible they may come back and stay at my house for a couple days. They're welcome, but the house is a serious mess. And instead of fixing that, I'm working out, reading, and playing on the computer. I know house cleaning can be a workout but I'm not using it. It's like I'm living a week in the future and forgetting to take care of now. I guess I'm overwhelmed by how much really needs to be fixed so procrastination is where I live.

Anyone have any great ideas on how to get it in gear?

The only tip I have it to break it down. Instead of 'I'm going to clean the whole house!' I say 'I'm going to clean the kitchen'. Or even just 'I'm going to clean off that counter'. And then I reward myself with some time on the internet (it's always a big reward for me!). And after a half an hour or so I think 'I'm going to clean the bathroom sink and floor'. And so on throughout the day(s) until it's mostly done.

And remember: They're going to see YOU and not just the house. They're not going to notice a few messy spots when they are there to see you.

Good luck on having everybody over!
