1/2 marathon...... yes, I will

Monday, July 25, 2011

So, Last year, I was INTENDING on participating in the CCFA (crohns and colitis foundation of America) 1/2 marathon in Las Vegas on Dec 5...... fear of not being able to raise enough money to cover my trip kept me from doing it.

this year, the event is on December 4th....
and you know what.........??????

To Hell with being afraid.

I have lived with this CRAP (no pun intended) for 15 years....I've had it up to my freaking EYEBALLS with letting my Crohns run my life.....

Besides...... what if MY contribution is what finds a cure?

The thought of there even BEING a cure really brings tears to my eyes....

I've had enough.

....sickness....
....pain....
......AND.....
EXCUSES....

CROHNS SUCKS!!!!!!

And I am going to help find a cure.

Last year I had the bright idea I wanted to do a HM - WHY my family asked. Just because I want to I said. I was going to turn 62 3 weeks after the race and it was just something I needed to do; I don't really worry about getting older, but I felt this would be a milestone for me. I AM NOT A RUNNER!!!!! However, I am a walker and I can run a little. So, even without my family's support, I signed up for it. I never really did the training crap, which was really kind of dumb, but hey... I set a time for myself of 4 hrs to finish (figured that was about a 20min mile). I met another woman from SP the night before the race and we determined to just do our best - whatever that was. When I crossed the finish line in 3:06 I was thrilled. I walked and ran the best I could - my family never thought I would finish so soon and they weren't even there when I finished. People I met through the JASR (Just a short run) in Pittsburgh last year told me, that being willing to start is being a winner.

I just told you my story to let you know emoticon you don't have to run at all, walk your best gait, run if/when you can; you might be surprised at where you finish. Good luck and if there is anyway I can help, or make a donation, please feel free to let me know. I am sorry you have Crohn's - I know others who have had it and it is dreadful. emoticon emoticon Bev

It's sounds like a great opportunity to get together with other Crohn's people and find out just how they manage to be fit with this disease.

Received my brochure this week. Recruitment meetings are next month. So very tempted but I'm not a runner and not sure how you "walk" a half marathon in any sort of timely manner.

Good luck to you. Go For It, Crohn's buddy!
