My Funny Tale of the week

Friday, July 22, 2011

On Wednesday I took the other half to the hospital for his weekly session. He goes there for exercise classes where they monitor his heart rate. I dropped him off at 9.00am and didn't have to pick him until 11.45am. I had the baby and my sons girlfriend in the car with me, so we went to the post office and then we decided to go visit my mum.
We sat around and had coffee and talked awhile. My mum doesn't live far from the hospital, so we just killed time until we had to go back. I watched my mums clock to make sure I wasn't late picking up the other half. So at 11.20am we all bundled back into the car and off to the hospital we went.
He usually waits outside the front driveway, but he wasn't there. There is never any parking to be found at the hospital, so we drove around and around looking for him. I looked at the dashboard clock and it read 12.50pm. I thought that it must be on daylight saving time and was wrong. So we drove around and around looking for him. Still no sign of him. Then I decided to check my mobile and it read 1.00pm!
I was an hour late!
I rang his parents as they live very close to the hospital but he wasn't there. I decided to drive back towards home to see if he was walking it. We live some miles from the hospital and there are many ways to get there, so I took the direct route home. No sign of him. Drove back to the hospital and thought he may have gone to the shopping centre. No sign of him. I thought that he might go up the major road, as I sometimes go that way to pick him up. No sign of him!
He can't ever remember my mobile no. even though I have had the same no. for 18 years, so I thought, we would go home, feed and change the baby and check the answering machine.
About 2 miles from home, we spotted him walking towards home. I thought I am in so much trouble. It was raining and he had walked miles and miles. He came over to us smiling. I was apologizing to him out the car window before he even got near the car. I felt terrible about not being on time and seeing him soaked to the bone was not good either.
His response " Well, the staff at the hospital told me I needed to do 10,000 steps and I think I have done it for today".
Later that day my Dad rang and asked me if we picked my other half up on time and then told me the battery in my mums clock had died...
The funny thing about it all is that I was in his car, using his petrol and he sounded like a Spark Person when he said he needed to 10,000 steps. Us Sparkies are supposed to do a lot of steps daily and now it looks like I have a walking partner. So on the local roads now there will be one walking for weight loss and the other for his heart.

That's great to have your guy be a your walking partner. Better bonding with exercise benefits to boot. All great! Hope you two really enjoy the walks for a long time.
