About 2 weeks ago, the faculty chair at the University where I teach occasionally (I am a Phoenix!) called to ask me to take a class I had never taught before. I usually teach family nursing or Healthcare IT (which fits in well with my OB and IT background), though I am also cleared to teach communications and Nursing research. Starting tonight I am teaching - wait for it -
Of all the classes! So, as I was preparing for the class this week, and mentally gearing up for it, I made a decision.
I WILL practice what I teach.
The first lesson is about the importance of proper nutrition in health and disease, and one of the exercises is a food journal and a discussion of portion control. So I will FAITHFULLY journal my food every day for the next 5 weeks.
We will also be covering the importance of exercise. I WILL exercise at least 5 days/week, and journal it. If it is too hot to walk (like today), I will do Wii, or spark videos, or go to the gym. Or walk after dark. Or do exercise or walk in the pool that sits in my backyard and looks so cool and blue - but that I have not been in yet this summer.
This is my opportunity to get (yet another) fresh start. I have lost a little weight in the past few weeks, but nothing even close to what I need to.
This is my own personal 5-week boot camp re-start. I think it will be fun. I always enjoy teaching, and the prep work is certainly applicable to my own life.
