I don't understand....

Wednesday, July 20, 2011

I started GTS Pilates in March, added yoga in May and then spin classes in July.... instead of losing weight and achieving my goals, I've gained eight pounds. My breasts are fuller, which is nice... lol, but overall I've gained about six inches and EIGHT POUNDS!!! I am not happy at all. It feels so heart breaking. I'm trying not to have a pity party, but it's hard.

Hi I agree with the others, you could be gaining muscle, the chest tightness is understandable because the excersises will tone those muscles, look at measurements not the scale and watch what you eat

Thank you for the kind comments. I got TOM today... my cycles are crazy, all over the place and this one was 46 days when the last one was 27 days. I'll WI again next Tuesday and see the difference, hopefully of 3-5 pounds.

Maybe its your TOM? Or something else hormonal? Then again, as others have said, muscle weighs more than fat, so hang in there! The weather may be a factor, too, making you hold water. The cure for that is usually drinking a lot more plain water and cutting back on the sodium. If you feel good otherwise, remember that numbers are just numbers and not proof of how good or bad you are!

I'm trying hard not to let it get me down. I just need a new plan.

This is so weird. It must be very disheartening. Does all this new movement feel good? Is your balance better? And endurance? When I was on some crazy med, strange stuff like that would happen to me. Hard not to despair. I feel for you.

MERRYWON has a good point. Just following body weight is uninformative. An inexpensive pair of skinfold calipers can measure BF. Then, you can calculate LBM. Lots of times there will be positive changes, decrease in BF, increase in LBM and the body weight scale just doesn't show this.

My clothes are a little tight across the bosom, but otherwise everything fits.

Do you think it's because you have added muscle? Muscle weighs more than fat. How are your clothes fitting?
