Walking to New Orleans...not!
Wednesday, July 13, 2011
I have been walking on my treadmill and working my upper body with free weights. Monday I did the 5K, Tuesday, I kinda jammed and only did half that, 2.5 and today I did my 5K. When I walk, I listen to a Blues station. For the last 3 or 4 days, they have played the same song, "Walking to New Orleans" by Fat Domino. I did a little math. It is 3,868 Kilometers from my front door to a nice little jazz club in New Orleans called Snug Harbor. If I were to walk 20K a week, it would take 193.4 weeks. Round that up to 200, for the weeks I don't do 20. Divide that by 52 weeks and round off for bad behaviour, it would take about 4 years. ..... Probably not gonna happen. It would take more than two pairs of shoes.
The rain is finally coming to an end. We, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, have had more rain than we have had in years. Rivers have over run their banks, main roads have been closed and or washed out. Entire neighbourhoods or towns have been evacuated or put on notice. Basements have flooded, and not in usual way, but by so much rain coming down so fast, it poured through the basement windows. I was beginning to wonder if we should build an ark. However, the clouds broke today and for the first time in over a week I saw blue sky. It is gone and clouded over now, but I saw it. I have witnesses. Our area was not effected directly with the nasty weather, other than days and days of dark. We were all very lucky. Tomorrow the clouds should be gone for the most part, and the sun and heat back by Friday. The rivers have crested and the levels are receding. Hopefully the system has moved on.
The damp and gloomy weather has made it difficult for me to stay motivated..... I did though.... thanks to my Sparkbuddy. Every time I went online to track my meals, I could see that he had already done his workout, and not only had he done it, but he had done it with enthusiasm and excitement.. Now how could I jam after that? Thanks bud!
