Looking back at June and keeping it real...

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

So Below were my "goals" for June and below each what happened with each of them. Keepin' it real and using this as a tool to find out discover realistic expectations for myself:

My theme for JUNE was "Preparations and calculations"

*HEALTH: SCORECARD - 1.7 out of the 5 activities planned.

*10-day ayurvedic detox - CANCELLED, 20% - 2 days out of the 10
I originally wanted to do this to help reduce cravings for pasta but 2 days into I realized it wasn't pasta I was having trouble with but that chocolatey Starbucks mocha jive that really was my only "issue" left. Considering it's summertime and bountiful harvest season - I really didn't want to follow such a strict routine and nixed this goal.

*10-day Bikram yoga streak - CANCELLED; 20% for going more than the previous month
I did do more Bikram than I was before but no streak, summer schedules did not allow or rather what I really mean is that I preferred to do fun summer things like picnics, kayaking, trips, etc. than sweat it out in the yoga studio. I also have started to really enjoy a personal practice at home. So this was NIXED.

*Swim at the gym and lift weights at least once - POOL WAS CLOSED and CHOSE NOT TO WEIGHT LIFT; 10% for effort
So the one day I finally decided to go swimming, the pool was closed for the week. Oh well! For whatever reason I continually avoid starting a weight lifting program. What is the reason? This is something I need to explore. I think part of it is the charting and tracking part of reps and routines etc. I am motivated by variety and spontaneity right now in my life. In fact, I feel like in this stage of my life that is what I am reclaiming. So how can I make weight-lifting be part of that reclamation?

*Develop early morning ayurvedic routine - DONE!
I religiously scraped my tongue, neti-pot, abhyanga, brushed the teeth and then ate. I didn't always get up before 6 but I did managed to get the routine down regardless and I am better for it.

*Develop early bed-time routine - TRIED and am better for the attempt- I'd say 20%
Despite continually trying to aim for an early bedtime, I always ended up an hour later than I wanted, or had insomnia, or couldn't sleep, or it was too hot, or there was too much to do, blah, blah, blah.

*EARTH: SCORECARD - 2 out of 3 activities
*DONE - Experiment with sprouting and dehydrating
*DONE -Plant herb and tomato plants and flowers
*Give my anger to a tree - I AM AFRAID AND EMBARASSED to do this. I delayed the activity to July when I am in the Berkshires. Of course, when I was out there this past weekend, I didn't do it. I have one more weekend this July to take a hike, find a tree and give it all I got.

*MARRIAGE: 3 out of 3 activities
*DONE Take a walk and watch one sunset with my husband
Nothing really planned and done but we did watch a sunset from our house before that big storm we had. We took a few impromptu walks together as well.
*DONE - DH will schedule one appointment for marriage counselor
*DONE Plan our summer trips to the Berkshires

*CHILDREN/CREATIVITY: 2 out of 2 activities
*DONE- Play the guitar (techically I did this in July but since I tend to run my themes within the first or second week of month, it counts)
*DONE - Put pictures into digital picture frame - I put four pictures into the frame which isn't exactly what I had in mind but I am so pleased that any progress has been made with this project!

*BENEFACTORS/TRAVEL: 2.1 out of 3 (with a replacement and a continuation)
*REPLACED- NYC trip with my sister - my sister and kids as usual are too busy as usual and nobody has a lot of money so I am just going home to help harvest their garden in JULY
*DONE Plan summer trips to the Berkshires - did we ever! Lots of trips planned
*IN PROGRESS - 10% Play for tips; I downloaded chord sheets and did research of songs I might be interested in playing. This is a longer process than I anticipated and so I want to do something each month to support me doing this next year.

*CAREER: 2 out of 1 activities (I added a BONUS)
*DONE- Pay for training with Dan Leven
ADDED - I had at least 5 interviews for other jobs this past JUNE and things are in the works for not a new career but at least a better transition job.

*KNOWLEDGE: 50% out of 1 activity
*IN PROGRESS- 50% Develop routine of meditating 3 times a day
I did better with this than ever before. Opening up my definition of meditation really helps.

*FAMILY: 1 out of 1 activity (with an alteration)
*ALTERED - Plan a trip to NYC with my sister trip planned to her house in July instead

*WEALTH/HOME: 1.75 out of 4 activities - (3 of which are long term)
*IN PROGRESS: 25% Clean out the house
*IN PROGRESS: 25% Petty Annoyances list
*IN PROGRESS: 25% Create plan to finish home improvements
*DONE: Create homes for my new healthy living appliances

*FAME/SUCCESS: 0 out of 1 activities (with a plan to make it ongoing)
*DELAYED: Play for tips - I feel like I need to get the picture project done before I can focus my energy on this. It will make room in my life on so many levels.

IN CONCLUSION:
In general, I did 16 out of 24 activities. (when you count up the percentages)
Cancelled: 3
Reassigned/Altered/Replaced: 2
Continued/Long-term: 6
Added: 1

I did best in the Career, Marriage, and Children/Creativity categories which makes sense since those are my priorities at this time.

I've got 10 categories but 24 planned goals then about 16 I accomplished. Time to scale it back and then be realistic about the long-term goals breaking them down into smaller bits for the upcoming months.

This was fun. It's fun to play the scientist in your own journey.
