DEJaVu..defending the FAITH

Sunday, July 10, 2011

I said it once many moons ago... in the very same team... Im gonna say it again....

ON spark?! I am shocked that I see discrimination in the very ugliest form! Why is it that anything can GO in this world accept faith in God and praying for someone in Jesus name?

I will not make my statement politically correct or change what I mean when I say I WILL PRAY FOR YOU. I wont water down my faith for anyone. If you find that offensive, well I am sorry for you - because everything under the sun is OK but my faith.

No offense meant to anyone - but I am tired of reading about Christians on Spark being raked across the coals for their faith (prophecy come true!) - there are many Christians on spark...
who share their faith. (in reply to a post in the leaders forum, decided it was best my own personal blog)

Claire , you could have been born in a country where no one is allowed to speak out about any thing especially ones beliefs.
To (laugh out loud) as you said at Jens post is not being very respectful.
I have never said to any one God Bless You and then ask them to do the same to me, nor have i ever heard any one do this.
If we cant speak of our beliefs in this country, then there is some thing so wrong with people who feel this way.
The word Respect you used, should apply to Christians also.
I dont drink alcohol, i hate alcohol--Why? because my father, brother and uncle were alcoholics. BUT that did not stop me from loving them and i highly respected my father, and brother, when they didnt drink they were wonderful men.
I dont smoke, my son does and he is respectful of others rights as non smokers and i respect him for this.

How ever you want to believe is your right, as a free citizen in our free country, but go to another country who doesnt have these rights and we would be put in jail.
I'm proud to say i love my Lord, and I'm a christian, I also am a Christian Preschool Teacher, and I'm proud of this.
I'm sorry some posts offend you, ignore them.
I'm sorry that they are people who will preach to you, i dont believe this is the norm. Most Christians know you can not preach to a person and they will change their minds.
My sister in law is a Jehovah Witness, i do not agree with all she believes, but we discuss things and do it with respect for each other. And she is a dear sweet person to me. I have friends who are Jewish, one of my best friend is Catholic and i dearly love her, i have gone to Mass with her, i love the peace and quite of the old Catholic Churches. I love to hear the Dali Lama.
I hope you take no offense at my expressing my opinion, I'm trying to do it with Love and Respect.
Caroline

Wanna make sure you all got that I think it's politically correct for you to talk/write as you think/believe. I wouldn't want you to [example] stop god blessing me because that is how you think and believe and I accept it that way.

What wouldn't be politically correct is to god bless me and tell me I should be god blessing you back or I'll go to hell. Jean is definitely not one of these people!

I'm with ya!! I refuse to be politically correct. Absolute truth is ABSOLUTE!!! You can choose to not believe, but it doesn't change the truth that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior!!

It is interesting that this topic has come up right now because just the other day I was thinking to myself "Gosh is this a Christian based site and I've missed that along the way?" because there is such a strong, visible, vocal Christian presence - and at times it DOES make me uncomfortable.

Looking at it from the other side of the fence, I imagine you would also be uncomfortable if every time you read one of my posts you had to read a quote from the "Freedom from Religion Foundation". And you'd get dang tired of it, too.

I'm not going to try to convince you that my beliefs are being persecuted every time I read "in god we trust" "under god" or any other religion-based phrase in/on governmental paperwork/events even though I strongly feel that way. That wouldn't be showing respect for your beliefs. Likewise, I get extremely upset when I'm subjected to proselytizing of Christian beliefs. That shows the lack of respect for MY beliefs. And unfortunately, sometimes posts do get very close to be outright offensive to me.

I don't get upset when someone says they are praying for me or God blessing me or all the other expressions of faith - it's their way of showing care and concern for me and that is always needed and appreciated. In the same vein, I don't think anyone gets upset when I show my care and concern by saying "I admire your strength" rather than "God's good grace has made you strong."

And I mean absolutely no offense when I say I laughed out loud when I read "Why is it that anything can GO in this world except faith in God and praying for someone in Jesus' name? " in your post. In spite of the religious freedom espoused in our constitution this is a Christian country. I have *no choice* about participating in your religion every time a benediction/prayer is made at the beginning of a public event I attend or I'm asked in court to swear to tell the whole truth so help me god or I use American currency. From my perspective, the *only* thing that goes in American is faith in god and praying for someone in Jesus' name.

I'm only laying out this perspective because I want all of us to be sure we are treating each other with the same level of respect. I am often bombarded with some version of 'you are going to hell' when I express my feelings about religion rather than 'I respect your right to have those beliefs even though I don't agree with them'.

I haven't read the post to which you refer. It sounds like it crosses my line, too, by making you feel bad about your beliefs. Not cool. I don't support that at all. I believe that Christians/Muslims/Buddists/etc and nontheists should not be denigrated for expressing their [non]religion within their posts. SparkPeople is meant to be inclusive. Anything that anyone says that causes another to feel unwelcome is inappropriate. Period.

I haven't experienced negativity towards my faith on SP although I understand where you're coming from because I have experienced it in the real world. We are all allowed our own opinions and our own beliefs and it's sad that people can talk about sex and drugs and violence all over the internet and tv, but when a topic concerning faith and God comes up people get offended. We just need to stay strong in our faith and not let anyone shake us. I will not water my faith down either and I will not be ashamed of being a follower of Christ. Stay strong and I'll be praying for you. May God bless you.

Some bible verses that say we will be persecuted for believing:
Matthew 5:10
Acts 14:22
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
John 15:18-20

I have never had anyone say anything negative to me, and I have offered to pray for others. I have seen some doom and gloom blogs from Spark People members who profess to be Christians and I've stayed away from those since the God I serve is a loving God. I agree that you should be free to profess your faith and if some people are not receptive, that's up to them, don't carry their burdens. Everyone is entitled to his own beliefs, and this should not be an environment where members feel uncomfortable.

I've never had anyone make a negative comment to me about praying for them. I don't blame you. I would not back down either. We answer to God in the long run not to other SP members. I'm always glad to find another Christian on SP. I have been lucky. Many friends I have on SP are Christians. I guess I have been lucky.

Amen to that my friend! I will not back down on my faith either. I know everyone does not agree with my faith and that is fine, but don't expect me to water down my faith because you don't like it!
Standing with you in faith my sister in Christ!
In Jesus Name

I didn't realize this was a problem. I've told people I'd pray for them and haven't noticed any negativity. Makes me wonder if I just missed it.
