July 9: Day 23 of the 10+ Minute Fitness Challenge

Voted Popular Blog Post: View All Popular Posts

Sunday, July 10, 2011

Hello Everyone!

Note: I will blog much more about this, but I have re-started my goal to see if I can do 1,000 days in a row of at least 10 minutes of fitness. As you can see from the title of this blog, today is Day 23. I will also try to blog as many days as possible. One of my goals is to motivate as many people as possible around America and the world to reach their goals using health and fitness combined with goal setting as a springboard to reach goals in all areas of life. Working together we can make an enormous impact. As I say, "Your daily actions and words impact more people than you realize!"

Today's Fitness:
I did 58 fitness minutes today woohoo!

Today's Highlight:
My fitness highlight today was swimming laps with my boys hanging onto my back. They LOVE this because it feels like they are surfing. My oldest even tries to stand on my back while I'm swimming. Needless to say, this is a really challenging exercise! I love this one because it's both a challenge physically and something memorable for my boys.

Here's one of my favorite member posts the past couple of days. I love the confidence members have because of all the support and tools here at SP!

I was in the hospital recently and because I am diabetic they sent a diabetic nutrition counselor to see me. While I'm sure she meant well, she came in assuming that I knew nothing about a diabetic diet or that I had a current plan and had my diabetes under control.

I quickly corrected this assumption and pulled out my laptop to show her my Sparkpeople nutrition page!! She was very impressed and made sure to write down the website before leaving.... I'm hoping she will share this as a tool for her other patients!!! I can't believe as a nutrition counselor she didn't already know about it!

How was your day yesterday or today? Did you get at least 10 minutes of fitness? We can do this!

What a great idea, many times we get derailed from our fitness programme, going from "all" to nothing". I can see this as a great motivator to get 10 m even on the most difficult of days and the benefit of this is that we won't have to overcome the "start again" battle.

Am wondering what book is Anonsi referring to?

I am going to be travelling for 5 weeks in April/May and am now setting 10/day as my minimum goal when I'm away.

Thanks

Took the day off from the gym to play outdoors with my kids and their dad. We played kickball, jump rope, hula hoop (I can still do it!!lol), and then I squeezed in 10 sets of 14 walking lunges, squats and running from one end of my yard to the next! Total of 52 minutes of worth while fun from a crazy day at work! Keep it up SPARK people!! emoticon

I'm on day 44 out of 100. Maybe I should join you on the thousand-day challenge. I usually get more than ten minutes in, but it's a relief to know that I only have to do ten minutes on days where I am too busy, out of town, visiting friends, etc. Ten minutes now seems like a piece of cake! Since reading the book, I have been telling everyone I know about your ten minutes a day challenge and about how much it has helped me.

I ran 8 miles yesterday in 80 minutes. Temps were already in the high 80s with high humidity when I set out at 9am, but I still stuck with the entire run. I stopped twice for water. I'm lucky that there are many water fountains along the lakefront where I run. I've been swimming this summer also, but I cannot imagine someone standing on my back while I do it. That's great that you can combine exercise with spending time with your family!
