A SOFA BY ANY OTHER NAME....

Sunday, July 10, 2011

The piece of furniture that you will find in most living rooms is called a sofa or couch or davan or a chesterfield depending on where you live. Indeed there may be other names for it that I'm not recalling right now. But whatever you call it, it is the one piece of furniture that many of us spend too much time sitting on - isn't it? Time and again, we were told to get off the couch at get moving.

Well, I had a great laugh this morning when I read SPARKPEOPLE's Healthy Reflections page.
It is always a great page to read and has so many good ideas & thoughts. On the right side of each page is a quote.

Today's quote said
"Know the true value of time; snatch, seize and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness....never put off time tomorrow what you can do today."

IRONICALLY, This quote is attributed to "Lord Chesterfield"
............................
.....
side note: Lord Chesterfield was the English Peerage title given to Phillip Stranhope in the 1600's. Lord Chesterfield was a statesman and man of letters and has many quotes attributed to him.
............................
...
So, you see, you can never judge a book by it's cover, nor a quote by it's writer's name!

I loved reading that one too - my mom always quoted the 'never put off until tomorrow what you can do today' but I had never heard the full quote...and it is so true!

Now whereever did davenport come from??

Hi Bernadette, How astute Lord C. was, and you're observant to make the connection. I know I'm not the only one spending too much sofa/couch/davan/chesterfield time some days. Nancy
