Why am I committed to losing weight?

Friday, July 08, 2011

In response to CERIUSLY's assignment, I am focusing on why I need to lose weight.

I recently gained back almost all the weight I'd lost over the last three years. I won't explain it, and I'm not going to apologize for it. It happened. Let's move on.

I am dangerously overweight. Last month, my BMI was 50! Even now, it's in the high 40s. My waist is over four feet around and more than double what it should be. I am at a high risk for a stroke or heart attack. My joints are deteriorating, and my arthritis is getting worse. My autoimmune symptoms are flaring because my body is so inflamed.

My belly is so big that I almost cannot measure it with a regular tape measure. When I was in the hospital recently, and they asked me to curl up to insert the needle in my spine ... I couldn't. There was no place for me to go!

Of course, I would like to look prettier, but it's all about health right now. I'm 100 lbs. away from worrying about looks, and from experience, it's going to be a long road. Still, I either lose the weight -- or lose my life.

It's that simple.

Hey Cat I don't know if you have seen one of my blogs or not where I did little mini goals but I am going to do that this time around again. For each 2 pounds I lost I decorated a 2x2" Sqauare and displayed it on a board hanging on my wall so that I could see it each day and it was very motivating. You may want higher numbers(but for me 2 kept me going steady and I decorated it according to what holdiday or event was happening when the loss was acheieved. Kept me going. I have a picture of my chart on my old blog if you want to look- just an idea.

You can do it, Cat! I like the advice to just focus on 10 pounds at a time. Otherwise it can be so overwhelming. emoticon emoticon

First of all, I'm selfish. I know you need to lose weight for you, but really, do it for ME, US! LOL. We need you. I want to see what the healthy you looks like. I'm curious. LOL. My mom always told me as she looked at herself in the mirror, "I'm petite underneath." And I can see my petite self after losing 80 -- still have 60 to go, and ya know what? I'm jiggy with it! I know you can get jiggy with yourself, so let's roll baby! Onward and upward! Put on some Tony Robbins and do IT!

CJ is right - don't think about those 100 pounds - concentrate on getting 10 pounds off, then the next 10. You need to accept and love yourself for who you are, not what you look like, and then it will become easier to make healthy choices because you're doing it for YOU and because you're worth it. You have lots of support here. Blog daily if you need an outlet for your emotions or need to stop yourself from eating something you shouldn't. We're here for you!

We have a VERY long journey ahead of us but we are climbing this mountain together. There are going to be times when one or more of us gets tired and feels that we just can't go on and that's when we all reach out to help pull that person/s up.
Don't be afraid to reach out for help. Please.
UGH to think of how far I have to go makes me tired already so I am choosing to live from now on as if I am already healthy.
Healthy people choose to eat healthy foods and b/c I am healthy that's what I will do. Healthy people stay active. I may not be able to see my feet but there are still many ways I can keep moving. WE CAN DO THIS!
LOL there should be a warning on our taste buds. DANGER! Giving in to these little buggers CAN be hazardous to your life! emoticon

FUNFROG is right; you deserve to be healthy. You owe this to yourself. As we were saying in the family room (or was it the great hall?), even after 100 lbs, you'll still have a way to go. But it's crunch time. You do have to work at the first 100 first. Actually, no, that first 10 first. Then the next. And the next.

I'm cheering for you!

I have a long road ahead also, fellow Sparker, and it will not get shorter by putting it off. I know I will develop patience as I consistently adhere to life change, and you obviously have the skill and determination since you had lost excess weight before. In addition to that in all areas of my life I tend toward throwing out or undervaluing progress that doesn't seem significant to me. That's one of my greatest challenges...to never dismiss any progress, no matter my view of it's value. I trust that both of us will hold fast to the good and not let anything deter us from it. emoticon emoticon emoticon

You control your future, your destiny.
What you think about comes about.
By recording your dreams and goals on paper,
you set in motion the process of becoming the person you most want to be.

Put your future in good hands - your own.

Amen sister! I've reached the same conclusions - I've done as much backsliding as I can and now am at risk.

Make no excuses and take no prisoners!
